The Forum Post That Changed Every Month

In 2009, a user on a now-defunct paranormal forum posted a message titled ‘I have been here before.’ It was unremarkable – three paragraphs about deja vu, a question about whether other people experienced it chronically. Fifteen replies, mostly sympathetic.

Someone screenshotted it in 2011. Then again in 2013. Then again in 2015. When they lined the screenshots up, the post was different each time.

Not drastically. A word changed here. A sentence restructured there. The username was always the same. The timestamp was always the same. But the text had been quietly, consistently revised – always becoming slightly more specific, slightly more urgent, as though the author was getting closer to saying something they couldn’t quite name.

The forum went offline in 2017. The post was archived by at least four people. When they compared their archives, none of the four copies matched.

The username has never posted anything else. The account still exists. It was last active six hours ago.

No one has been able to establish what it was active doing.
